Black Trim

As much as I love the coziness of a traditionally styled home, I love an eclectic home more. I love the fresh ideas, bold colors, and fun furniture that seem to inspire. A trend in eclectic homes that I love is black trim. Who would ever have thought that painting a door way or window frame black could be so lovely? I love the edginess it brings to a room. The black frame can be sleek and sophisticated yet, fun and different, it is so versatile! Here are a few of my favorite examples of how black trim is beautifully incorporated into these eclectic homes.

I am seriously in love with black trim on window frames. It contrasts so much with the light that it just seems inviting and fresh.

They drawback of painting the trim in your house black, is that the best wall color to pair with it. If you are not a white-wall lover, this trend may not be your favorite. If you are still loving the black trim, but don’t want to commit your entire house to black and white, I would suggest painting some window frames or doors to add some variety without too much inconsistency.

Gallery Wall: Today’s Trend

Gallery Walls are beautiful. They can be structured or scattered, either way, they can be just the key to adding personality and personal touches to your room. Using a mix of frames is a fun way to add some eclectic style, while using the same, or similar frames, can add structure. I love sleek black frames, with a thick matte underneath. You can mix sizes, shapes, and colors of frames, or even just leave them out! Frame-less gallery walls are fun because all you need to do is tape up some pictures. You need to be careful when assembling your gallery wall to make sure that it is balanced. Make sure to have bold colors distributed and not clumped in one section. Also spread out bigger and smaller images. An important reminder is to make sure the vertical center of your gallery wall should be about eye level for the average person or 62 inches off the ground. You can space images evenly in a line or grid, or scatter images. Gallery walls are perfect to disguise a large TV, fill that awkward empty space above your headboard, and add a bit of fun to a hallway.

Lob (Long Bob): Today’s Trend

The “Lob” or Long Bob has been making its appearance for some time now, but it seems to have gotten a bit shorter. The “It cut” of the year dubbed by In Style Magazine, is being worn by our favorite stars, from Emma Stone to Julianne Hough and Karlie Kloss, this cut is being worn straight and blunt, messy and wavy, and styled to a “T”. This short cut is fun and edgy. A lob ranges in length from your chin to your collarbone. The current trend is on the shorter side, but longer lobs are just as fun, with a little less edge.  Ends are usually left blunt, with minimal layers. It can be worn messy or polished, and is a fun change from long locks.  This versatile cut looks great on most face shapes, and pares well with just about any type of bangs. Just looking at these lovely cuts makes me want to chop my hair to match.

White Walls: Today’s Trends

White walls can be just what you need to lighten a room, but can also be a challenge in making a room interesting. When decorating with white walls, everything is in the details. This doesn’t mean that everything else in your room needs to have color to compensate. You should keep wood tones rich and warm, and add interesting details to the furniture.

Mix textures to add dimension to the room.
