“Be You” Challenge

be you challenge from Whirl Whim

(isn’t this the cutest! Free printable from Burlap & Blue!)

So often in society we are trying to find ourselves. We often look to social media for inspiration and often end up feeling worse about ourselves than before. We loose ourselves trying to find ourselves. Getting lost in the crowd, we loose our individuality and our will to be different. We become perfectionists, not only in our work, but in ourselves and feel like failures when we make mistakes.

I think we need to break these social barriers that keep us from being ourselves. I think we need to embrace our imperfections, quirks, and awkwardness and be confident with who we are. We are all weird and everyone makes mistakes. There is no perfect person out there! Everyone has room for improvement and should be working toward a goal.

Don’t ever be afraid to be you! You are lovely, you are intelligent, you are gorgeous, you are valuable, and you matter! Who else could be you better than you?

My university is  challenging its students to a “Be You” Challenge. I wanted to share my experience with you lovely people and challenge you to participate! This 10 day challenge will help us to improve our self esteem and express our individuality!

Starting tomorrow I will be posting the daily challenge here on the blog.  So grab your journal and get ready for some self confidence boosting!

Prints are all the rage, so lately I have been looking for some free prints to hang on my walls. I have found an overwhelming amount across the web, mainly through Pinterest! I love illustrations and quotes the best, but some wall papers would be adorable framed in a gallery wall! I want to share some of my favorites. All you have to do is click the picture to access the original source.

Best Durable iPhone Case Ever

Remember a while ago I posted about my quest to find the perfect phone case? If you don’t you can check it out over here.

Well anyway, I finally found a company that sold the best durable iPhone case! Rifle Paper Company has the cutest, and durable cases I could find. I have had mine for a couple months now and it is as sturdy as ever; barely even a scratch on the case not to mention my phone. It is great and I absolutely love it! I settled on this lovely floral one and couldn’t be happier. It is an awesome case and I would recommend it to anyone!

I went with the rubber inlay case with hard outer shell to make it extra sturdy.

I have recently bought some notebooks from them, and uber love them! Their products from my experience are great quality and super cute! I love their artsy style and am currently swooning over their calenders. I might have to cave and buy one just because they are so darling. Check them out but beware, you might want to buy everything they sell!

Blueberry Pie Recipe

My family is full of pie fanatics. I have always been afraid of hand making a pie, because the crust always scared me. My mom would always let me help her make pies for thanksgiving and other holidays, but I never wanted to try by myself because I was scared I would ruin the pie with a “crumby” crust ;). So this year for Father’s Day, I conquered my fear and made my first pie by myself. I made a blueberry pie per his request.blueberry pie @ whirlwhim.com

My mom’s pies are famous for their crusts. We have always used this recipe for our crusts from the Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book. The keys to success are to not handle the dough too much or it will be come tough, don’t add too much water or the dough will be too sticky. I 1 1/2 the dough recipe to be sure that I had enough even if it tore a bit. I hope one day I can completely master this skill, but that will take a lot of practice, I won’t complain about having pie a bit more often!

Good luck on your pie making adventures, don’t be scared off by the crust, it really isn’t too hard once you get the hang of it!

Black Trim

As much as I love the coziness of a traditionally styled home, I love an eclectic home more. I love the fresh ideas, bold colors, and fun furniture that seem to inspire. A trend in eclectic homes that I love is black trim. Who would ever have thought that painting a door way or window frame black could be so lovely? I love the edginess it brings to a room. The black frame can be sleek and sophisticated yet, fun and different, it is so versatile! Here are a few of my favorite examples of how black trim is beautifully incorporated into these eclectic homes.

I am seriously in love with black trim on window frames. It contrasts so much with the light that it just seems inviting and fresh.

They drawback of painting the trim in your house black, is that the best wall color to pair with it. If you are not a white-wall lover, this trend may not be your favorite. If you are still loving the black trim, but don’t want to commit your entire house to black and white, I would suggest painting some window frames or doors to add some variety without too much inconsistency.

Night Photography

Finally got around to doing a bit of my favorite thing: photography.  I decided to play around with some night photography, and decided tripods are your best friend. At night, cameras use long exposure to capture what we see. So without stabilizing your camera on a tripod, your images come out blurry. Even with my tripod, I had trouble getting some clear shots, but unfortunately I didn’t realize this until I got home and downloaded the images. I should have used the timer so I was not touching the camera when it took the picture. It was fun to get out with a camera, but it was a bit chilly! Anyway, here are some of the pictures from my latest adventure:

I think I took this by accident, but I love how it turned out! The out of focus lights just look dazzling!

 Have a lovely Friday!

I have had my tripod for a long time, but it seems a lot like this one from Amazon. It is nice, but not too expensive. There are tons of others for less if you just look though!
